Nana Ankrah, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of biology at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, where he teaches microbiology, microbiome science, immunology and general biology. His laboratory investigates microbial and bacteriophage interactions in environmental and host-associated systems, with implications for ecosystem function and host health. Specifically, his lab examines virus-microbe and diet-microbe interactions in 2 complementary ecological contexts: the gut of the fruit fly Drosophila and the freshwater ecosystem of Lake Champlain. Across both systems, his research seeks to determine how microbial community structure, viral activity and nutrient availability interact to influence host physiology and ecosystem-level outcomes.
