Patrick Curtis, Ph.D., is an associate professor at the University of Mississippi and an expert on prokaryotic development. He has studied developmental signaling in both model and nonmodel bacteria for more than 2 decades. Projects in his lab include studying how developmental regulators evolved new mechanisms to control pilus gene expression and how bacteriophages co-opt those regulators for their own use. His research also explores the evolution of regulatory networks, novel mechanisms of protein stability regulation and how bacteria respond to growth in microgravity, including experiments conducted on the International Space Station.
