Sonia Rao, Pharm.D., is a global medical affairs lead at Roche Diagnostics. She earned her Pharm.D from Purdue University College of Pharmacy and completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Indiana University Health, followed by a PGY2 infectious diseases residency at Midwestern University/Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
Rao worked for 2 years as an antimicrobial stewardship and infectious diseases clinical pharmacist at Alexian Brothers Health System–Amita Health before transitioning to the pharmaceutical industry. She has held field medical affairs (MSL) roles supporting the launch of several novel anti-infectives and served as Associate Director of Medical Affairs at QIAGEN, where she led the global medical science liaison and medical information teams.
Rao joined Roche Diagnostics in 2022 and currently oversees global medical strategy for the molecular infectious diseases portfolio, including transplantation and antimicrobial resistance/stewardship (AMR/AMS). Her professional interests include antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial stewardship and advancing patient care through novel diagnostic technologies.
