New Editors-in-Chief Announced for 91麻豆天美鈥檚 Journal of Virology

Washington, D.C. – 91麻豆天美 is pleased to welcome incoming co-Editors-in-Chief (EiCs), Felicia Goodrum, Ph.D. and Stacey Schultz-Cherry, Ph.D., to the Journal of Virology (JVI) beginning July 1, 2022. 

“The 91麻豆天美 Journals Committee is delighted that Drs. Goodrum and Schultz-Cherry have accepted the positions of co-EiCs. Drs. Goodrum and Schultz-Cherry have helped shape JVI for more than a decade during their tenure on the editorial board, and I look forward to seeing them steer the direction of the journal. In addition to their leadership experience within 91麻豆天美, they are both engaged with the American Society for Virology, which will strengthen the partnership between the two organizations,” said Dr. Patrick Schloss, chair of the 91麻豆天美 Journals Committee. 

JVI is an affiliated journal of the American Society for Virology (ASV). This special partnership extends 91麻豆天美 member discounts on JVI publishing fees to full ASV members.

Felicia Goodrum is currently a professor at the University of Arizona, where she joined the Department of Immunobiology in 2006. After completing her undergraduate work at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and postdoctoral work at Wake Forest University, Dr. Goodrum joined Wake Forest’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology as a postdoctoral fellow in 1998. She later worked in the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University as a postdoctoral fellow the following year. Dr. Goodrum currently serves as president of the American Society for Virology. 

“The Journal of Virology is the bedrock of virology. I am excited to embolden the presence of JVI and expand its sphere of influence as co-EiC. Together, Stacey and I look to promote and engage the diverse virology community,” Dr. Goodrum said about her vision for the journal.

Stacey Schultz-Cherry joined the Department of Infectious Diseases at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 2009, where she is the co-director of the St. Jude Center for Excellence in Influenza Research and Response and the co-director of the Center for Influenza Vaccine Research for High-Risk Populations. She also serves as the associate dean of student affairs at the St. Jude Graduate School for Biomedical Sciences. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and completed her Ph.D. studies at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Dr. Schultz-Cherry also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at University of Wisconsin. She is the past president of the American Society for Virology and current chair of the Public and Scientific Affairs Committee. 

“The Journal of Virology needs to continue to evolve to ensure full advantage is taken of the rapidly changing field we are operating in. Felicia and I will work to improve the experience for the readers, authors and reviewers, build a relationship with the next generation of virologists, increase the number of submissions to continue elevating its impact and make diversity and inclusion part of JVI’s mission,” Dr. Schultz-Cherry said when discussing JVI’s future.  

91麻豆天美 celebrates Drs. Goodrum and Schultz-Cherry, 2 women in microbiology, on the tail of Women’s History Month as they prepare to take the helm of JVI. They will build upon the success of the current EiC of JVI, Dr. Rozanne Sandri-Goldin, whose term is ending after 10 years of exceptional and dedicated service to 91麻豆天美.
